What is the GMAT Exam :

The graduate management admission test (GMAT) is a standardized test used to measure a test taker’s aptitude in mathematics, verbal skills, and analytical writing. GMAT test of general skills and abilities that you have acquired over time. Do your best by understanding the format and content of the test.The GMAT is most commonly used as the primary exam reviewed by business schools to gain entrance into an MBA program. The exam is generally offered by computer only; in areas of the world where computer networks are limited, the exam may be given as a paper-based test.

GMAT™ Online Exam Structure

The GMAT™ online exam measures the verbal, quantitative, integrated reasoning, and critical thinking skills that are most relevant for graduate business education.

Integrated Reasoning—measures the ability to analyze data and evaluate information presented in multiple formats

Quantitative Reasoning—measures the ability to analyze data and draw conclusions using reasoning skills

Verbal Reasoning—measures the ability to read and understand written material, to evaluate arguments and to correct written material to conform to standard written English

Analytical Writing Assessment—measures the ability to think critically and to communicate ideas

The GMAT™ online exam includes the Quantitative, Verbal, Integrated Reasoning and the Analytical Writing Assessment (AWA) section. Each section contains the same number of questions and time per section as the current test center-based GMAT™ exam.The sections are as follows:

31 Quantitative Reasoning/ 62 minutes

36 Verbal Reasoning/ 65 minutes

12 Integrated Reasoning/ 30 minutes

1 Analytical Writing Assessment/ 30 minutes

The total exam time is 3 hours 7 minutes, not including two optional 8-minute breaks.

How is the GMAT Exam Scored?

You may be tempted to pay attention only to your Total score, but the other scores are also meaningful. Those scores offer you and the programs receiving your scores insight into your strengths and areas for development.

Analytical Writing Assessment: Each essay is scored at least twice, once by a human reader and once by a computer. The scores are averaged to provide one section score, reported in intervals of 0.5. Total score will be in between 0 – 6.

Integrated Reasoning: The Integrated Reasoning score is based on the number of questions you answered correctly. Some questions may have multiple parts; you must answer all parts to a question correctly to receive credit for that question.

Scores are reported in intervals of 1. The total score of this section in between 1-8.

Quantitative and Verbal: The Quantitative and Verbal Reasoning sections are item-level adaptive, and your score is based on three factors:1. Number of questions you answer2. Whether your answers are correct3. Difficulty and other parameters of the questions you answered You will earn a higher score if you answer a higher number of questions, answer more of them correctly, and qualify for questions of a higher difficulty level.

Scores are reported in intervals of 1 and the standard error of measurement is 3 points. Total score of this section  will be in between 6-51.

Final score:  Total Scores are based on your calculated performance before scores are given for the Quantitative and Verbal Reasoning sections. The raw calculation is then converted to a number in the Total Score range.

Scores are reported in intervals of 10. The standard error of measurement is 30-40 points. The total final score will be in between 200-800.

Note that there is a penalty for not completing each section of the exam. If you do not finish in the allotted time, your scores will be calculated based upon the number of questions answered. Your score will decrease significantly with each unanswered question.

On the day of your exam, you must present acceptable and valid identification. Some ID requirements also vary by location. Please use the drop-down table below for location-specific identification requirements.

Identification (ID) Requirements:

On exam day you must present an international travel passport when you arrive at the test center. If you do not have an appropriate passport with you, you will forfeit your exam fee, and you will need to pay the full fee again. There are no exceptions.

If you are taking the exam online, one of the following forms of government-issued identification at registration. On exam day, the ID that you present to the online proctor MUST match the passport you uploaded at registration. Note: you cannot make any changes to your uploaded ID within 48 hours of your appointment time. If your ID does not match, or the ID you uploaded at registration was not valid or appropriate, you will forfeit your exam fee, and you will need to pay the full fee again. There are no exceptions.
